SoSecure Extends Professional Monitoring Beyond the Home – Protecting People Wherever They Go & Helping Bridge Critical Gaps in the 911 System

Technology That Protects & Connects
Changes in American labor and social culture have dramatically altered the way people interact with one another. Blind dates are set up with the swipe of a finger in an app. Spare rooms in our homes can be rented out the same day with a single click. Rideshare and gig economies have transformed the service industry, enabling millions of strangers to receive or provide a service to one another on-demand through an app. With these tremendous conveniences also comes risk and concern for personal safety. ADT’s mission is to protect and connect people to what matters most—extending our trusted protection to customers outside of their homes is what led ADT to create SoSecure by ADT.
SoSecure is a free safety app, available for download on both iOS and Android, that provides users with the ability to quickly and discreetly ‘call’ for help with a simple swipe or tap from their mobile phone. Recommended as a safety resource by a number of attorneys general and elected officials, SoSecure puts the trusted protection of ADT in the palm of your hand for peace of mind while on the go. Designed for the safety-conscious individual who also values independence, convenience, and adventure, SoSecure gives customers access to ADT’s 24/7 professional monitoring and emergency response with a simple swipe, tap, or voice command on their mobile phone.
GPS location, personally identifiable details, and any available contextual data is shared with emergency responders unless the user indicates (with authentication) that the request was an accident. ADT also notifies family and friends in case of an emergency, providing added reassurance. SoSecure’s core safety features, including sending an SOS alert by sliding a button or via SMS chat, are free for everyone.
Breaking New Ground
SoSecure has extended professional monitoring beyond the home – protecting people wherever they go and helping bridge critical gaps in the 911 system. According to NENA, an estimated 240 million calls are made to 911 in the U.S. annually, often with limited location data. Some 911 callers are unable to verbally relay information that emergency responders need to assist them because they are unaware of their surroundings, traumatized, or in a dangerous situation that an obvious outreach for help may worsen.
Unlike some solutions that displace the intermediary, ADT keeps the monitoring agent central to the experience while leveraging technology to make it easier and faster for users to request help and equipping 911 centers with information they need to help locate users faster. After an explicit emergency help request, users are prompted in the app to confirm that the request was not sent in error. If no response is received, our monitoring agents attempt to contact users. Both methods combined significantly reduce false alarm dispatches and help foster better use of emergency services resources, potentially resulting in more effective response in the event of a confirmed emergency.
ADT’s technology provides our monitoring center agents with potentially life-saving information that they relay to PSAPs, including data such as GPS location, gender, and hair color. By increasing the information available to emergency responders, it can enable faster response times and help save lives.
