
ADT is making it easier for more people to access smart security with a new way to install an ADT+ smart security system without needing Wi-Fi. Whether you’ve just moved in and haven’t set up internet yet or you live in an area where broadband isn’t an option, ADT+ can now run entirely on a cellular connection.
This new capability, available through ADT’s direct channel (855-497-8573), lets customers choose either a DIY or professional installation experience. For an additional $5 monthly charge, the ADT+ system will use cellular as the primary method of communication. If Wi-Fi is later set up, customers can contact ADT to validate the connection and remove the cellular charge from future bills.
Customers who go this route will still enjoy the ADT+ app experience and access to our Secure and Smart service tiers. However, since the system operates without Wi-Fi, certain connected devices, such as cameras and smart thermostats, won’t be available until a Wi-Fi connection is established.
If a professional technician arrives for an installation and finds that Wi-Fi isn’t set up, they can update the quote on-site to include this cellular-only option, ensuring the customer doesn’t have to wait to get protected.
“We’ve long supported cellular connectivity with our Command platform, so expanding that flexibility to ADT+ was a natural next step,” said Steven Johnson, ADT's Director of Product Management. “This gives customers more options to get protected right away, even before their Wi-Fi is set up.”
This update opens up new opportunities for customers who previously weren’t eligible for ADT+ and also helps support ADT's broader goal of bringing smart security to more homes, no matter the setup. It’s especially useful for movers, renters and anyone who wants protection right away without the wait.
