For years, ADT has been working to help first responders get to those who need them as quickly as possible. So when two ADT leaders saw a concept version of ADT’s iconic yard sign that illuminates as an extra beacon when help is needed, they knew it was something worth pursuing.

Jimmy Lin, ADT’s VP of Product Management, and Michael Reeder, an ADT Marketing Consultant, formed a fast-moving partnership to explore whether the ADT yard sign could do more than deter thieves — they wanted to know if it could help save lives.

Lin's prototypes sparked quick support for the project.

“I immediately jumped on the phone with our vendors, we mocked up some potential designs, and within a couple months I had parts coming into my home,” Lin said. “I had bits and pieces around my garage and I started building.”

As more employees saw Lin’s handmade prototypes, momentum grew. Reeder, like many at ADT, felt a deep responsibility to protect the company’s iconic brand symbol and worked with Lin to get it right.

“When it lights up, it has to mean something,” Reeder said. “No gimmicks. No different colors. No party modes. Only purpose. Only safety.”

Just seven months after those early concepts were created, Live Light is now available to ADT customers — a remarkably fast turnaround. That speed reflects ADT’s commitment to extending protection beyond the inside of the home. Recent innovations such as My Safety and Trusted Neighbor™ further reinforce that mission, offering safety and peace of mind throughout more of our customers’ daily routines.

“Even in such a large company, anybody can make an impact,” Lin said. His advice to other innovators: “Put together a plan. Don’t wait to be told what to do. Make the pitch — and sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and build the first version.”

Lin and Reeder see Live Light as a blueprint for every future innovator at ADT. “Sometimes something that seems simple can be the most innovative,” Reeder said. Lin added, “And if you believe in the idea and start moving, amazing things can happen.”

Live Light is compatible with the ADT+ Security System. Order it for $49.99 by calling 1-888-678-7024.
